Reports to : Clinical Supervisor and FamilyStabilization Specialist

Time Commitment : 10 - 15 hours per week .August 23, 2024 - May 16, 2025.Weekly schedule to be determined by supervisor and intern.

Compensation :This is an unpaid internship. Interns receive mileage reimbursement when driving is required.

Duties:
•Work alongside Family Stabilization Specialists to supporthigh-need refugees facing concerns related to severe mental health, domesticviolence, child abuse, substance abuse, elder abuse, sexual assault, andsuicide ideation
•Utilize interpretation to provide psycho-education andsocial-emotional support to clients
•Practice a trauma-informed approach, recognizing anddrawing on client's individual strengths to reach client goals
•Assist and educate refugees in accessing communityresources and support programs, support with referrals
•Provide case coordination helping clients overcomebarriers in accessing services, including providing transportation to and fromappointments when necessary
•Maintain positive partnerships with services providers toensure clients have access to culturally andlinguistically appropriate service
•Provide accurate and timely case notes
•May also provide educational resources and trainings tocommunity partners including schools and health facilities

Learning Objectives:
The FSS intern will have the opportunity to work withrefugees from diverse backgrounds and will learn to usetrauma-informed and strengths-basedapproaches to ensure clients in crisis receive necessary support and care. TheFSS intern will gain a working knowledge of how resettlement programs at theIRC support refugees in reaching self-sufficiency, and common challenges thatrefugees face during resettlement.

Qualifications

Preferred Skills:
•Patient, organized, independent
•Able to respond compassionately and appropriately while working with people facing severe mental health needs or safety concerns, with supervision support
•Experience working with diverse populations and building trusting relationship across cultures

Required Skills:
•Must be enrolled in a graduate program in Social Work or Counseling
•Second year student or advanced standing
•Comfortable with a high level of client interaction
•Must be able to transport clients in a reliable vehicle
